after a year the game is worth playing they have fixed so much of this game its now great ,this next expansion can make it a even better game 10/10

I've been playing WoW since beta and personally I've just gotten really bored with it. I've been downloading free trials like it's nobodies business and tried many of the F2P MMOs out there. But I have to say, after I tried AoC and got the hang of the combat system I am blown away with the game. For me, it's a fresh take on combat... not having an auto-attack getting some used to but it makes the experience more interactive for me.

Another thing that's been great for me is the leveling speed. It's so much faster than WoW was for me. I probably don't have more than 10 hours game time and I'm already level 18. Maybe it's just me, but that seems a lot shorter than WoW. That will give me more opportunity to reroll some other toons later on.

I haven't ever played AoC before now so I can't say how far it's come from it's original state. But I love it at its current state.

10/10 for me.

After being so hyped for this during beta as well as initial release and being severely disappointed at the time, I was willing to see if the game had been "fixed," as the PR suggests.

I've seen precisely one crash since I started playing again, and that was due to a faulty custom UI (trying to update an old one and not succeeding). So, props there. Memory leaks still exist but the game eventually cleans them up (meaning unless you zone to major places 3 or 4 times in a row, it'll still run fine).

I'm still not pleased with the amount of Zoning required in this game, but I don't really ever expect it to be taken care of.

The Necromancer pets are still messed up. It's messed up differently than it was a year ago, but still not functional the way it should be.

Healing is still less fun in AoC than it is in other MMOs, though I can't quite pinpoint why.

Graphics are still on par with what I expect in today's market (good), but they're not amazing either.

Gear design in general is severely lackluster. It doesn't look good at any level, doesn't have enough difference from one character to another, and doesn't have enough impact on your toon in general. This could be because they have -way- too much "specialized" gear, i.e., This piece of gear is good Only for Necromancers who happen to spec this way, and no other class. If a piece of gear is made for ONE build of ONE class, it should have a more noticeable effect; on top of that, finding gear is difficult enough as it is.

The UI is still... lacking. It shows promise of what a good UI -could- be, but is still laggy for no reason (and no, it's not my comp). Some of the spell decision's that FunCom has made (buffs, debuffs, damage spells notably) are still making me go "wth?" because they make no sense, and they still don't have PVP balanced in the least.

Overall, I'd rate AoC at 6.5/10. They've made notable improvements in the application stability... and done just about nothing for fixing faulty game design. This translates out to the game no longer crashing but your class still feeling off no matter what you do.

Just my two cents.

Poor Game Master or any Support at all! Account managment are **** like it was at game launch.

I tried to play this game again, but FailCom with their failed game managment killed my interest.

Game 9/10. Other account/ingame support 0/10.

I'm having a blast right now in AoC. The game is so gorgeous and overwhelming with its lore and content. I can smell the blood with every strikes that I make. Never felt it would be this so great.

Sounds all good, Guild Renown sounds similar to WAR, but it great addition.

Ok i see what you mean Bloath. I am not sure of all that as i have said before. However they stated above that they added more quests and such. Healing, not sure how it is. Even if it is spamming, its still the same as other MMOs. Spamming FoL on a tank, or just tossing hots on random people in your group. Its the same thing.

And PvP balance was really that bad? I hope it got better then. I assume they made changes, as it has been quite a while since AoC has been out.

Oh thought of something else. Grinding was the best way to level in WoW for quite a while. (Before TBC.) Back then quests gave mediocre rewards, and were somewhat scarce. There are many times where you finish all quests around your level, and you are still too low to do the 'next tier' quests. (IE Duskwood > Wetlands > Ashenvale > ? Grind ? > STV (Next Tier)

I asked about siege pvp performance because despite having the top of the line computer at the time (really), it was laggy as hell. The original promises of huge siege battles had to be withdrawn, but even small scale sieges were unplayable.

I asked about pvp balance because the balance was so far off it made WoW pvp look like the holy grail. This is to be expected in any new mmo off course, but it's still a valid question if class abilities have been consistently tweaked over the last year. If it's been fairly stagnant, then I know it's not balanced. Unless Funcom presumes to have the arrogance to consider their pvp balanced after just a year of play.

Yes I enjoy healing, alot of ppl do. But in AoC the heals were so insignificant that all you did was load up aoe hots and dps (which was vastly inferior to real dps classes). AoC might as well have deleted the healing aspect entirely imo. So I'm wondering if this still is the case.

AoC at the launch did not have enough quests to get you to lvl80. You had to grind and on top of that grinding was more efficient to level. On top of that you had to fight for your grind mobs from griefers who were already lvl80 and bored.

So that's why I asked these questions and apart from the mention that some memory leaks have been fixed, I don't see anything in this review or in the subsequent discussion that these issues (issues for me) have been addressed or not.

Not trying to rack AoC down, but neither do I want to blindly trust Funcom's PR.

Oh, and they are NOT stopping expansions for WoW. Wow is also NOT going to go F2P. I really have no idea where you are getting your information.

Also, i REALLY hate to be this guy, but please use correct grammar. I mean this in the best possible way i can, but it was very hard to understand all of what you wrote. Read this example:

Correct Grammar

"I helped my uncle Jack, off a horse."

Incorrect Grammar

"I helped my uncle jack off a horse"

See the difference?
