K-UI Age of Conan GUI modification

Special thanks to Werik for the first AoC UI mod, checking out his files helped me get started on this.

About K-UI
The design goal behind this mod has always been compactness and functionality. I strive to take up us little screen space as possible whilst also displaying clearly the relevant information needed for playing. This is why in the upcoming version 0.7 of this mod you may notice a further reduction in the amount of graphical fluff. This mod isn't designed to look pretty - it's designed to look clear, whilst also keeping as much of the game world visible as possible.

Disclaimer
This is a work in progress GUI mod, although it's fully functional some things may be broken and/or missing/in the wrong place. I have made this GUI mainly for personal use, suggestions and feedback are always welcome but I don't guarantee updates.

Features
- Compacted to use minimal screen space for maximum info
- 13 x 4 action buttons - all keybindable
- Full buff display for player and target
- Relocated and larger concealment gem
- Background area for chat windows
- Chat window borders smaller and default window docks to bottom left corner
- Various graphical fluff removed from top of screen
- XP bar reduced in size to allow more screen space

Info and Tips
For setting up keybindings the bars are layed out like this:
[2nd extra bar 1-13]
[1st extra bar 1-13]
[Mainbar 1-12] (13 is not keybindable currently due to UI limitation)
As with the default UI, holding alt will switch the bottom bar a secondary bar. The center three buttons will correspond to 6, 7 and 8 in your keybindings.
Chat windows reduced to minimum height should now fit perfectly with 12 lines of text (small font) into the background. Left window can be positioned correctly by making it docked. Right window can be positioned correctly by dragging it over the bottom right of screen and relogging. Recommended settings are to have font size on smallest and make the border of the chat windows transparent in UI options.

Future Plans
K-UI is currently undergoing another overhaul! expect version 0.7 to look quite different, I hope to release a public version within the next week. Group and pet windows will be in!

Release Notes 0.431b
- Assassin soul fragments finally appearing in the correct place (tested)

Release Notes 0.432b
- Updated for build 49995
- Fixed problem of buff icons becoming very small

Release Notes 0.6a
Well this is a big update! I had to do a lot of hacking with the UI to get all the changes I wanted (concealment gem was a real pain), everything seems to work OK but I've called this an alpha as I haven't had a chance to test it extensively (or in pvp or groups).
- Bottom bars compacted and reduced in size a bit for those with lower resolutions
- Trashed and redid minimap
- Trashed and redid XP bar so it takes up only 2 pixels at the bottom of the screen (no fresh kills counter just mouseover it to see)
- Concealment gem revamped and relocated to a more useful place
- Removed a lot of unnescessary gfx from the top of the screen
- Relocated help button out of the way
- Redesigned lag meter and made it slightly smaller
- Changed colour of stamina bar a bit to make the text easier to read although it's still not too clear
- Trimmed instance change button and stuck it in the top right of minimap out of the way
- Probably more I've forgotten!

Release Notes 0.61a
- Chat borders made a lot smaller
- Removed chat window drop shadow
With these changes chat windows should now fit into the background areas much better see my updated tips for getting it looking right.

Release Notes 0.611b
- Updated for UI build 50752

Installation
- Backup aoc/cd_image/gui/ folder
- Remove any other custom GUI that changes portraits, bars, hud or chat this will not work with them
- Copy GUI folder from zip into aoc/cd_image/ directory

Uninstallation
- Delete aoc/cd_image/gui/ folder and copy in backed up version

I've enabled pet bar in 0.43b (awaiting approval from Curse admins then it will be on here). I tried your suggestion above the chat window unfortunately it messes with the chat if you have your tabs above the border. Therefore I've placed it at the bottom it overlays your XP bar but it's tiny so doesn't really block much.

    Super nice GUI !

Just one request: May it possible to integrate the petbar again somehow ?
Maybe left side docked over the chat window left aligned.

  • I like this one very much...

Question though. How come no combat rose support?

I'm only seeing 3 bars. Is there not an option for more like the games default or bar switching? Where if I'm dual I'll be using bar 1 and if I'm with 2h, I'll switch to bar2.

If enough people want it I'll see about trying to fit it in somewhere...

  • A shame...I would use but you say no support for Combat rose. :(

Yeah the buffs going so small is something I'd like to change but problem is the game seems to resize them automatically, one way around this would be to make the full size buff icons larger - going to experiment a bit. Hopefully this will be less of a problem when the buffs bug is fixed (that's a bug with AoC by the way not my UI).

Do you think there is a possibility to optimize the buff icons ?
I was in the sanctum today and look at the screenshot... 4x4 pixel or so. to small.

Thanks Kernos, the MultiBar1 to ShortcutBar0 worked perfectly. My spells was missing when I logged on, not an issue but thought I'd mention it in case anyone else want to try it out.

I've seen a few minimap mods but not found anyone I liked. I was hoping to get a "all in one UI" to cut down on the mods used (think I had 60+ in WoW :o) and since your UI is outstanding and in my humble opinion other UI's can't be compared with it, I'm sticking with yours. If it wont be possible and/or you wont make changes to the top interface and minimap, then so be it. :)

I've posted a link tho this page in our guild forum, Tears of Greshan on Wildsoul EU which is a part of The Older Gamers, a gaming community with over 5000 members.

Keep up the good work. But don't work to hard, you have a game to play also. :)

Thanks for the comments. Redoing the whole top UI might be possible in future but currently we only have the power to reskin stuff, therefore I can't add an options window to my UI... unless I make an installer for it and you pick the options from outside the game but that's quite a lot of work. I could make a version with no alt-switching but then I could make 100 different versions for people who want something slightly different.

In this case though it should be fairly simple try opening up bottombar.xml and replace the line

    name="MultiBar1"

    with
    name="ShortcutBar0"

I haven't tested but this should disable the alt switching behaviour.

Any mods that don't change anything in the Customized\Views\HUD directory should be compatible with mine, I believe there's a minimap mod out there already that does what you want.

    Very nice!

    As for future requests:
    - Hiding or having an option to hide the UI elements at the top, friend, guild, and the bag, feat etc. tabs.
    - A cleaner minimap. Or better yet, hide it and clean up the big map so we can use that as a minimap and hide/resize it whenever we want.
    - Is it possible to stop the mainbar to swap when you press alt? I'm using several alt+key combos which worked fine with the original UI but since you offer two extra bars there is no need for that, I can simply put all my alt+key in one of those bars instead. Which is what I prefer anyway.

And for the combat rose: I don't care for it, its just a waste of UI space. But if you implement it I hope you don't sacrifice the current UI look.

Keep up the good work! /thumbsup

Those casting bars are movable in the interface options if you hunt around I forget the exact place. I've noticed this happen on a couple of occasions but then they seem to correct themselves after a while and appear higher up it's quite odd.

This so far is my favorite skin. I only have one small complaint, and it may be something I can fix on my own, I just don't know how.

My casting bar and my target's casting bar sits right over my player frame/target frame. I'd like to move it up and have it stop overlapping with other UI elements. If there's just a value in an XML file somewhere I need to change, that'd be great. I've looked around a bit, but I haven't found the correct one (or maybe I have and didn't know it). If I could maybe get the name of the XML that has that value in it so I can change it, that'd be great!

Hi guys, new release today... lots of changes. Party and pet window changes coming next version, haven't managed to get them in a way I like yet. Also I REALLY want to get rid of the huge border inside the chat window so we can get lots more text in the chat backgrounds, but I haven't worked out how to do it yet.
