Phalanx UI

Phalanx is an aesthetic interface modification that tries to retain as much of the look and feel of the original skin as possible ... with any changes made to be from a minimalist / efficiency / polish point of view.

There are currently two versions -- a Normal Version and a Widescreen Version. The Widescreen Version is fine for those even without widescreen monitors, but use screen resolutions of 1280x1024 or higher.

As this is a partial compilation, I would like to give credit to the following:

  • Viper's Smaller OnScreen Message
  • Viper's Group Window
  • gurgelstock's Clear Emotes (partial)
  • TisraUI (minimap partial)

Phalanx UI Normal Version Hotbar

This second hotbar mirrors one of the floating hotbars. In practical terms, this means one of the floating hotbars was made static and moved to form the second row of the hotbar. You will still be able to use the first seven Action Buttons of the first floating hotbar normally.

The second floating hotbar will retain all its original functionality.

Phalanx UI Wide Version Hotbar

The Wide Version adds an additional 12 Action Buttons to the hotbar. These mirror the last 12 Action Buttons of the 2nd. Floating Hotbar. This leaves the first eight Action Buttons of the second floatable hotbar to be used normally. Note that this version may be too wide to fit on displays that are not widescreen.

What Phalanx is not

Phalanx is not a solution for all your UI problems. It will not add functionality that is not already present in the original UI. In fact, if you prefer to have the full use of both your floating hotbars, it might rob you of some functionality.

Hotkey Bindings

Normal Version

In order from left to right on the lower hotbar:

  • The first six Action Buttons correspond to 1st. Extended Action Button 8 through 13 under the Controls options.
  • The next three Action Buttons are actually part of the original UI, this three-button row is called the Extended Hotbar in the interface options. Two of these buttons correspond to Action Button 11 and 12 under Controls, where Action Button 11 is the first, and by default assigned to Q, and Action Button 12 is the third, and by default assigned to E. The Action Button in the middle has no corresponding bind option under Controls. This is a limitation of the original UI.
  • The remaining seven Action Buttons of the lower hotbar correspond to 1st. Extended Action Button 14 through 20.

Wide Version

In order from left to right, and in a clockwise direction:

  • The first three Action Buttons of the first row correspond to 2nd. Extend Action Button 9 through 11.
  • The last three Action Buttons of the first row correspond to 2nd. Extended Action Button 12 through 14.
  • The last three Action Buttons of the second row correspond to 2nd. Extended Action Button 15 through 17.
  • The first three Action Buttons of the second row correspond to 2nd. Extended Action Button 18 through 20.

The hotkey binding instruction for the normal version still apply to the Wide Version, but keep in mind that hotkey instructions for the normal version ignores the first and last three buttons of both rows that the Wide Version adds.

Installation

To install Phalanx, choose which version you wish to install. Then go into that version's folder and just drop the folder named 'cd_image' into your Age of Conan installation directory. Do not remove the existing 'Gui' folder, simply merge folders and overwrite files if prompted. The default full install path of Age of Conan is C:\Program Files\Funcom\Age of Conan\

If you already have another modification installed it is recommended that you backup your 'Customized' folder as Phalanx may be incompatible with existing modifications.

I will not be removing the graphics. Maintaining the original Hotbar look is more or less the whole point of this mod.

This is almost exactly what I've been looking for.

What do you think of removing the graphical aspects of the default mod? I, myself, am of the opinion that they suck. Terribadly.

I'd also like to see the icons a bit smaller, and the top middle buff/food bar brought down closer to the rest of the hotbar.

Keep up the good work, mate! I like this concept the most, adding extra bars was teh smart.

Thank you for your feedback. As of version 1.04 you can now use the first seven action buttons of the 1st. Extended Hotbar, i.e. 1st. Floating Hotbar, normally :)

    I love your UI mod!

    And I have a suggestion:
I noticed that not *all* buttons from the first floating action bar are used - would it be possible to use only the last buttons, so that you can shrink the floating bar down to 2-3 buttons and still use those? I'd love to use them for a small bar like the one you have in the lower right corner.

I have no plans to make a scaled down version at this time. I'm already maintaining two version of Phalanx now, the normal and the wide version. I'm not at all keen on adding another two versions.

I have to add to the request for a scaled version... I've used MirageUI and I have come to love it's small bars. which allows me to have a combat window and chat window on each side. I use the Wide version of your mod now, but I must add that if it was smaller I'd find your house and kiss you on the cheek!

Will do! I actually do not have access to my home pc at the moment ... but middle of next week I'll be back in town and will have Phalanx fully updated for not only last patch but for the upcoming one as well.

  • Could you please update, im an evil clicker and I love how I have the extra space where I need it but its not too many extra button slots or gimmicks. 7/17/08

It just occurred to me ... the compass minimap is removed by intent in this version. If you like the regular map mod, but want to keep the compass, simply go to cd_image\Gui\Customized\Views\MapGUI and delete MiniMapView.xml and MiniMapView.bxml

no just the Phalanx UI, and I'm getting no Error, the minimap is just invisible.
I think, i'll be waiting for 2.1 until then i'll play 1.07, that works for me, cause i really like the UI

That's interesting. Are you getting any error, or do you have any other mods installed?

The minimap doesn't work anymore, or at least it doesn't at my PC, any suggestions?
