  •

This is an extremely simple addon to remove the fading message bar that is displayed in certain situations (clicking a quest object, receiving loot, attempting to use a spell that's on cooldown, etc).

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Unzip the addon to your <Age of Conan>/cd_image/Gui/ directory. Choose 'Yes' if prompted about ovewriting your Customized directory.

  • I know this reply is months too late but I figured I'd respond anyway in case any other players come by, see your comment and needlessly avoid my addon like the plague.

First, this addon is extremely simple. It consists of nothing but an XML file that overrides the default FadeInFadeOutView.xml. I wrote this shortly after the launch of AoC because there was some demand on the forums for removing the "annoying" on-screen messages and at the time, nothing was available to do that.

I also quit playing shortly after I released this so there haven't been any updates since that time. Now, that's not much of an issue because 1). the addon does exactly what it's designed to do and there wasn't a need to add new features and no bugs to fix and 2). other addons have come out that do something similar and 3). the only "update" required is a change to the Interface Version Number which can be done by the slew of automatic UI updaters that are available.

Now, why do I say all of that? Because your comment about how my addon "sucks" and "didn't even work" and somehow inadvertently crashed your game/corrupted your installation and caused you to download a 700MB patch is absolutely ridiculous.

No addon, including this one, has the ability to corrupt your game files. Period. There is no executable code included here. It's simply a (mostly) blank XML file. Even agreeing to allow the .zip to overwrite your Customized directory wouldn't be capable of causing any harm (the most that would happen is an older version of this addon would be overwritten).

What actually happened is you installed the addon, launched the game, saw some error message, quit and tried to remove the addon but got too zealous with the delete button. In the process you deleted one of the core game files. Next time you launched the game, the patcher downloaded the file(s) you deleted - bam 700MB patch coming down the wire.

Had you done some research instead of jumping to conclusions, you would've known all of this and easily gotten the addon to work.

    So just to sum up:
1). The addon still works. Use one of the automatic UI updaters to update it to the latest Interface Version Number before launching the game.
2). No addon, including this one, can harm your computer (unless it's infected with a virus but that's another story).
3). Blaming other people for your inability to perform basic computer tasks is fun.
