Alot of new answers from the developers

At 14 February 2007, the AoC developer Athelan made a lot of good answers in everything from leveling skill system to a Assassins poison.


Note: I am going to assume that abbreviations like 1HE and 2HB are short for "one-handed edged weapon" and "two-handed blunt weapon", respectively. If this is not the case, please inform me as this could change everything.

1) As for the general leveling-up of classes, how much control do we get over what skills we learn and what attributes we can raise? Do we have total control, as in Diablo 2, is it all preset based on race and class, as in EverQuest 2, or is it a mix of us controlling what skills and stats we major in AND getting preset boosts based on race and class?

Its a mixture between optional and automatically gained abilities and attribute /skill points


2) In terms of 1HB+shield vs 2HB, do 2HB weapons give a boost in defense at all (as in ES4 Oblivion, where you could still block with a 2HB weapon), or are we left to rely on shield+1HB combos to get a defense boost?

2hb weapons do not give a defense boost, but there are no really defensive 2hb wielders in Conan

3) I noticed in the Class Archetypes page that there are unique weapons classified outside of 1HB, 1HE, 2HB and 2HE. The Scion of Set in particular has access to 1HE and daggers, which puzzles me as daggers could technically fall into the 1HE category. Is there a reason daggers are not included in this category?

Because daggers have their own set of animations.

4) While looking through the Class Archetypes page, I noticed that only the Ranger has bows and crossbows listed under Specialties. Does this mean that ONLY the Ranger can use these, or simply that they're really good at it?

This means that others can use ranged weapons but they dont get any of the cool stuff like area attacks, debuffs, extra damage, sniping mode etc

5) In terms of casting spells, spellweaving or otherwise, how will we aim them? Will we shoot them like bows, or will there only be magic on touch spells? Also, if magic does have range, will the projectiles move at the same speed as an arrow or slower (as in Oblivion)?

Some of each.

6) In the Mage class, it appears that spellweaving is a vital tool for them, but it restricts their mobility. However, it does not say if Mages are forced to spellweave in order to cast magic. Is it possible to just cast simpler spells outside of the spellweaving mechanic to retain mobility?

Spellweaving is only if you want to take the extra time to make special unique powerful combinations of spells, all normal spells dont require you to do this.

7) In reference to the Bear Shaman, I remember skimming over something that stated only Cimmerians can become Bear Shamans... but I cannot find the source, and it is not in the Archetypes List. Is this statement still true, or was it only a figment of my imagination?

I believe you are referring to the original priest archetype page that disccussed the basic class types. I am not sure what the final race restriction will be for the class but they are very Cimmerian at the least.

8) Also in reference to Bear Shamans, it states that they focus on buffs and melee combat, and can transform into a bear. This is a class I will likely become, but the page does not reference any other types of magic. Am I right to assume that the Bear Shaman is basically a Soldier that can heal himself, or does he also have attack spells similar to the Druid of the Storm?

He does not turn into a bear, but is imbued with the spirit of the bear. He is not really a soldier but he is the most melee oriented of the healers and forgoes the nukes of the Druid of the Storm for melee combos and effects. 9) Under the Assassin subclass, they are the only ones that specialize in "restorative elixirs". Does this mean they excel at crafting them, that they are the only class that can use them, or that they get a class bonus for using them (e.g. Assassins get +110 HP from a potion but others get only +100 HP from the same potion)?

I would like to add a few more probable top secret ninja questions;

As an assassin, can you do stealthed back attacks which doesnt include the use of a dagger? As in non-poison attacks like neck/liver chop/kicks n etc.

Also, is it stealth...or total invisibility and is your movement very restricted when stealthed/invised?
